Methods for Quantifying Analytes using SPME

Webinar

What Does it Cover?

This webinar will provide basic information on the extraction and quantification of analytes using SPME. Examples will highlight a variety of matrices, and SPME will be compared to other extraction techniques such as QuEChERS and SPE. New SPME technologies, such as SPME-OC (over-coated) fibers and BioSPME, will be discussed. Guidelines will be provided for enhancement of precision using SPME.

What Will You Learn?

  • How to extract and quantify analytes using SPME
  • Application of SPME to various matrices
  • New technologies in SPME

Who Should Watch?

Anyone performing, or interested in performing sample preparation prior to chromatographic analysis:

  • Analytical Chemists
  • Method Developers
  • Laboratory Managers, Directors, Supervisors

Speakers

Robert E. Shirey, M.S.

Merck

Principal R&D Scientist

Bob Shirey received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from Shippensburg University and his M.S. degree in Biochemistry from West Virginia University. Bob started working at Supelco in 1984 as an R&D chemist focusing on GC and GC/MS applications. Eventually, Bob started to specialize in sample preparation and played a key role in the development of the VOCARB purge trap line. Since 1993 Bob’s primary responsibilities have been on the development of SPME fibers and hardware along with SPME applications. Bob has written multiple SPME articles for journals and books. Bob continues to focus his efforts on SPME in the development of the BioSPME product line and new SPME coating chemistries. He especially enjoys interacting with customers and learning how they are using the SPME technology.
