Sample preparation:

In a glass beaker mix 25 mL of sample solution with 5 mL hydrochloric acid 37 % and evaporate almost to dryness on the heating plate. Dissolve the residue in water for analysis and transfer to a 25-mL volumetric flask.
Whilst there is still room in the flask, check the pH with Universal Indicator strips. The ideal range is pH 3 - 10; if necessary adjust the pH with sodium hydroxide solution 1 mol/l. Immediately after, fill up the solution to the mark with water for analysis and mix well.

Analysis:

Determine with the above mentioned test kits.

Calculation:

Manganese (total) content in mg/l Mn = analysis value in mg/l Mn
