General description

Titanium(IV) isopropoxide is a titanium-based coordination compound, commonly used in the asymmetric Sharpless epoxidation reaction of allylic alcohols. It is also used as a catalyst in Kulinkovich reaction for the synthesis of cyclopropanes.

Application

Commonly used as a precursor for the preparation of Titania (TiO2)
Novel metal oxide/phosphonate hybrids were formed from titanium(IV) isopropoxide in a two-step sol-gel process. Starting material for barium-strontium-titanate thin films. Used to make porous titanosilicates, potential ion-exchange materials for cleanup of radioactive wastes. Applied in the formation of a heterosupermolecule consisting of a TiO2 nanocrystallite-viologen electron acceptor complex whose light-induced electron transfer has been demonstrated.

Packaging

The 25 mL Sure/Seal bottle is recommended as a single-use bottle. Repeated punctures will likely result in decreased performance of product.

  1. Which document(s) contains shelf-life or expiration date information for a given product?

If available for a given product, the recommended re-test date or the expiration date can be found on the Certificate of Analysis.

  2. How do I get lot-specific information or a Certificate of Analysis?

The lot specific COA document can be found by entering the lot number above under the "Documents" section.

  3. What needs to be done if Product 205273, Titanium (IV) Isopropoxide is a solid instead of a liquid?

The material will melt/freeze at 18-20 deg C, therefore the material can freeze when shipped during the winter months.  It can be warmed in a water bath to about 30 deg C to change the state without harming the chemical.

  4. What is Product 205273, Titanium (IV) Isopropoxide soluble in?

This chemical is very soluble in ethanol, carbon tetrachloride, hexane, benzene, or isopropanol.  Water is not recommended as a solvent because titanium (IV) isopropoxide will hydrolyze. (Precautions should be taken to make sure the solvents used do not contain any water - anhydrous grades would be recommended).

  5. What is the viscosity of Product 205273, Titanium (IV) Isopropoxide?

The viscosity of titanium (IV) isopropoxide is 4.5 centipoise at 25 deg C.
