General description

1-Dodecanol belongs to a broad range of flavor and fragrance standards, used for the quality control of food and cosmetic products. It is identified as the main component in Etlingera elatior flower, widely used in traditional medicine and as a flavoring compound in food products, essential oils of Hypericum perforatum and Polygonum minus. It is the most studied C12 alcohol and finds extensive usage as a diluent/solvent/blender in low-cost perfumes, detergent fragrances, etc.

Application

1-Dodecanol may be used as an analytical reference standard for the quantification of the analyte in:
  • Etlingera elatior

  • flower using gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy (GC-MS).
  • Essential oils from the aerial parts of Hypericum perforatum by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS).
  • Essential oils from Polygonum minus by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC-MS) and GC-MS/olfactometry (GC-MS/O) with aroma extraction dilution analysis (AEDA).
