General description

Pharmaceutical secondary standards for application in quality control provide pharma laboratories and manufacturers with a convenient and cost-effective alternative to the preparation of in-house working standards. 4-Hydroxybenzoic acid belongs to the class of aromatic acids, which may be used as a preservative in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals and as a synthetic flavoring agent in food products.
This compound can be found as a component in plants of the genus: aloe, carum, cinnamomum, lycium, thymus

Application

These Secondary Standards are qualified as Certified Reference Materials. These are suitable for use in several analytical applications including but not limited to pharma release testing, pharma method development for qualitative and quantitative analyses, food and beverage quality control testing, and other calibration requirements.

Analysis Note

These secondary standards offer multi-traceability to the USP and EP (PhEur) primary standards, where they are available.

Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) containing the stable isotope 13C was synthesized from 2-[13C]methylpropan-2-ol. A minor constituent of urine following ingestion of BHT-13C by a human volunteer was identified as 3,5-di-(1-[13C]methyl-1-methylethyl)-4-hydroxybenzoic acid, The major metabolite detected was 13C-labeled 5-carboxy-7-(1-carboxy-1-methylethyl)-3,3-dimethyl-2-hydroxy-2,3-dihydrobenzofuran.
