Description

General description

Sodium hydrogencarbonate commonly known as sodium bicarbonate is a white crystalline solid or powder. A study of the crystalline structure shows that the bicarbonate ion has C_2v symmetry. Ruthenium catalyzed hydrogenation of sodium bicarbonate to form sodium formate has been reported.

Application

Sodium hydrogencarbonate (sodium bicarbonate) may be used in the following processes:

As an alkalizing agent for treating metabolic acidosis.
For buffering local anesthetics (LA).
To facilitate the oxidation of styrene and cyclohexene.
As a medium to fabricate graphene hydrogel.
