General description

Human iPSC-Derived Cortical Astrocytes. Required supplements for the final cell differentiation and maturation (sold separately): BX-2600-100uL, BX-2020-100uL. Specialized glia that are the majority of the central nervous system (CNS), astrocytes do not conduct electrical signals but promote the health of the CNS through regulating the blood-brain barrier (BBB), excess neurotransmitter clearance, and maintaining ion balance, and more. Related diseases: Autism, Epilepsy, AD, HD

Application

Function: Cortical Astrocytes uptake glutamate. Improved neurite outgrowth in the presence of astrocytes. Energy and structural support cell for cortical neurons and immune response.

Features and Benefits

Marker Expression and Morphology: Fully differentiated Cortical Astrocytes express key astrocyte markers GFAP (green) and S100β (red) at >90% and exhibit mature process-bearing morphologies (shown here with a DAPI stain).
