Hygromycin B is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that inhibits the growth of prokaryotic and eukaryotic microorganisms and mammalian cells. Inhibits protein synthesis by interfering with the translocation of the 70S ribosome and causes misreading of mRNA.

潮霉素B是一种氨基糖苷类抗生素，可抑制原核和真核微生物以及哺乳动物细胞的生长。通过干扰70S核糖体的转运来抑制蛋白质合成，并引起mRNA的误读。对潮霉素B的抗性是通过一段基因所编码的潮霉素B磷酸转移酶对药物进行磷酸化并使其失活来实现的。潮霉素B已被用于选择在包括细菌、原生动物、酵母、真菌、植物和哺乳动物细胞在内的多种细胞中携带潮霉素B抗性基因的突变体。用于哺乳动物细胞选择的典型浓度在0.05至1 mg/ml之间。对于每种细胞类型，必须通过经验确定适当的使用浓度。
